Yes, but only SUVs and 4x4s are recommended beyond Harsil, and the road past Gangotri towards Nelang is restricted and needs ITBP clearance. A hatchback can technically reach Gangotri in dry weather, but the gravel patches near Bhaironghati make it uncomfortable.

Limited. Most Uttarkashi vendors operate chauffeur-driven only because of the terrain and insurance conditions on hill roads. If you specifically want self-drive, book from Dehradun or Rishikesh and drive up — but check the rental agreement's hill-route clause first.

April to June and September to early November are ideal — clear roads, open Char Dham routes, and no monsoon landslide risk. Avoid late July and August unless you're flexible, as the Gangotri highway often closes for 1–2 days at a stretch near Gangnani.

Yes, our regular Uttarkashi drivers do the Raithal (Dayara Bugyal) and Sangam Chatti (Dodital) drops frequently. Both trailheads are 20–35 km from town and the last few kilometres are rough kachcha road, so a Bolero or Scorpio is the sensible pick.

Gangotri is doable as a long day trip (leave by 6 AM, back by 7 PM). Yamunotri is not — the Janki Chatti trek alone takes 5–6 hours, so plan an overnight at Barkot or Janki Chatti. Our vendors can arrange the halt stay through local contacts.
