Riding in Mumbai: rules, rain and parking
Two-wheelers are not allowed on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway. For Lonavala, riders use the old Mumbai–Pune highway (NH48), which is busy with trucks and has ghat sections, so start early and avoid riding it in the dark. Some other expressways and sea-link roads also restrict two-wheelers, so follow road signs and do not rely on a navigation app alone.
Monsoon rain can waterlog low-lying roads, so never ride through standing water. Wear a helmet, ask for one for your pillion, carry your licence and ID, and park only in marked bays.
Documents you need
Bring a valid driving licence for the vehicle class you are renting, either geared motorcycle or gearless scooter, and a government photo ID such as Aadhaar. Vendors can have their own rules on security deposit and minimum age, so read those on the listing before you pay.
