GOOD TO KNOW

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a hatchback reach Mullayanagiri summit or do I need a 4x4?

The last stretch to Mullayanagiri peak is steep with tight hairpins and patchy tarmac. A hatchback can manage in dry weather with a careful driver, but between June and September we strongly recommend an SUV or Thar. Most of our Chikmagalur customers book an Innova or XUV700 for the Mullayanagiri–Baba Budangiri day circuit.

How much does a car rental from Mangaluru Airport to Chikmagalur cost?

The 150-km run via the Shiradi Ghat or Charmadi Ghat typically costs ₹3,500–₹5,000 one-way for a sedan or SUV, including tolls and driver allowance. Charmadi Ghat adds about 30 minutes in monsoon but is often more reliable than Shiradi when it's raining hard.

Is it safe to drive to Kemmangundi and Hebbe Falls during the monsoon?

The Kemmangundi road gets foggy and slippery from June to September, and the last 10 km to Hebbe Falls is jeep-only territory. We recommend an SUV with a local driver for this route in the rains — and note that the forest department sometimes closes the Hebbe Falls track entirely after heavy rain.

Do you provide cars for the Sringeri and Horanadu temple circuit?

Yes. The Chikmagalur–Sringeri–Horanadu–Kudremukh loop is roughly 200 km and works well as a full-day or overnight booking. Sedans handle it comfortably; tempo travellers are better for groups of 10 or more doing the Sharada Peetham and Annapoorneshwari temple darshan.

What's the best time of year to book a car in Chikmagalur?

October to February is peak season — cool, clear and ideal for Mullayanagiri and estate stays — so book at least a week ahead. Monsoon (June–September) is greener and cheaper but expect ghat-road delays, and March–May gets warm by noon, so plan drives for early morning.

Are tolls and driver allowance included in the quoted day rate?

For chauffeur-driven packages, the day rate includes the driver's allowance and fuel within the km limit. Tolls on NH-75 towards Hassan and any parking fees at Mullayanagiri or Kemmangundi are billed at actuals — we show these on the quote upfront so there's no end-of-trip surprise.

Can I get a car delivered to my homestay near Kottigehara or Aldur?

Yes, doorstep delivery is standard for Chikmagalur bookings. We deliver to estate homestays around Kottigehara, Aldur, Attigundi and Mudigere — though for very remote plantation stays, expect the driver to call ahead and confirm the last-mile track condition.

Do you offer one-way drops from Chikmagalur to Bangalore or Mangaluru?

One-way drops to Bangalore (about 245 km via NH-75) run ₹5,500–₹7,500 depending on vehicle, and to Mangaluru roughly ₹4,000–₹5,500. These are popular with weekenders who take the train up and drive back, or vice versa.
