Indian citizens from outside Arunachal Pradesh need an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter the state, and it's checked at the Ruksin gate on the Assam border. If you're already in Along with a valid ILP, travel onwards to Pasighat does not require a separate permit. The 110 km stretch takes 3.5 to 5 hours in the dry season but can stretch to 6–8 hours between June and September due to landslides near Kaying and slush on the river-crossing sections. We recommend a 4x4 SUV for this route in monsoon and advise starting before 7 AM to cross the worst sections in daylight.

Self-drive is not commonly offered in Along because most vendors prefer to send their own drivers on these routes — the terrain and permit checkposts make it easier. Chauffeur-driven rentals are the norm here, and it also means your driver handles the ILP verification at checkposts on your behalf.

The road crosses several streams and is best done between October and April.

Fuel pumps are reliable in Along town but scarce beyond it — the last dependable refuelling point before Tuting is at Along itself, with only occasional pumps at Tuting. Our vendors carry extra fuel on this route, and we factor the cost into your quote upfront so there are no surprises.

October to March is ideal — clear roads, cooler weather, and the Aalo-Yomgo festival in January draws visitors from across Arunachal. Avoid July and August unless necessary, as heavy rain causes frequent landslides on NH-13 and the Mechuka road.
