The Plan That Turned Into a Stormy Adventure

Most people take the Mumbai–Goa highway.
We didn’t.

We wanted raw beauty.
So we chose the Konkan coastal route during the peak monsoon.

It sounded romantic.

It turned out to be wild.

Day 1: Mumbai to Ratnagiri – Rain, Curves & Chaos

The journey began before sunrise from Mumbai.

Within 3 hours, heavy rain started.
Visibility dropped. Roads became slippery.

The Western Ghats curves tested our riding skills.

Waterfalls were flowing right beside the road.
Clouds floated across the hills.

But riding in the onsoon is no joke.

  • Sudden potholes filled with water

  • Trucks splashing muddy water

  • Wet brakes

Lesson learned early: Slow riding = Safe riding.

Night halt at Ratnagiri in a budget homestay.

Day 2: Ratnagiri to Goa – Beauty Meets Challenge

The second day was even more scenic.

We passed:

  • Ganpatipule Beach

  • Small Konkan villages

  • Endless coconut trees

  • Coastal bridges with Arabian Sea views

At one point, we stopped near an empty beach during rainfall.
The sound of rain mixing with sea waves felt magical.

This wasn’t just a road trip.
It felt like freedom on two wheels.

The Toughest Moment

Near Sindhudurg, one rider skidded on a moss-covered road.

Thankfully, no major injury — but it reminded us:

Adventure requires responsibility.

What This Adventure Taught Us

  • Never underestimate monsoon roads

  • Carry proper rain gear

  • Keep buffer time

  • Avoid night riding on coastal roads

  • Good tyres matter more than speed

Final Thoughts

Mumbai to Goa is not just about the destination.

It’s about:

  • Rain hitting your visor

  • Ocean breeze on your face

  • Long conversations during fuel stops

  • Random tea stalls in villages

That’s what makes it unforgettable.
