Ahmedabad to the Statue of Unity

A Family Day Trip from Ahmedabad to the Statue of Unity

Hey there! I’m Rohit Desai from Ahmedabad, and last weekend, I had the coolest day traveling with my big, fun-loving family of six to the Statue of Unity. We booked a cab with TransRentals to make the journey from Ahmedabad to the Statue of Unity comfortable and hassle-free, and let me tell you, it was the best decision we could have made!

Kickoff at Dawn

We hit the road early, around 6 AM, to avoid the usual traffic and make the most of our Statue of Unity one-day trip. The drive from Ahmedabad to the Statue of Unity is roughly 200 kilometers, and the route is as scenic as it is smooth.

The kiddos were half-asleep, snuggled up with their favorite blankets in the back seat, while my parents shared nostalgic tales from their own road trips. Mr. Patel, our driver, was a gem—chatty, knowledgeable, and full of interesting tidbits about the places we passed along the way.

First Stop: Sardar Sarovar Dam

Our first stop was the Sardar Sarovar Dam, an engineering marvel and a highlight of any trip from Ahmedabad to the Statue of Unity. The view was absolutely breathtaking, with the massive reservoir stretching out as far as the eye could see.

We took some memorable family photos with the dam as our backdrop before heading to the Statue of Unity, which was already visible in the distance, standing tall and majestic.

Wow Factor at the Statue of Unity

As we approached the Statue of Unity, the sheer scale of it left us speechless. Towering at 182 meters, it’s the tallest statue in the world and a must-see on any Statue of Unity family trip.

We took the elevator up to the viewing gallery, where the panoramic views of the surrounding greenery and the Sardar Sarovar Dam were simply stunning. The lush monsoon-fed landscapes added an extra layer of beauty to the already magnificent scene.

At the base of the statue, we explored the museum dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, whose vision and leadership helped unite India. The interactive exhibits were engaging even for the kids, making this stop both educational and entertaining—a rare win for any Statue of Unity one-day trip with children.

Lunch Time!

By lunchtime, we were all famished. Luckily, the nearby food court had a variety of options. We opted for some classic Gujarati dishes—khichdi, kadhi, and a few sweet treats.

The food was simple yet delicious, giving us the energy boost we needed to explore more of what the Statue of Unity family trip had to offer.

Exploring the Valley of Flowers & Cactus Garden

Post-lunch, we wandered through the Valley of Flowers, a vibrant garden that stretches along the banks of the Narmada River. The variety of flowers and their bright colors made for an enchanting walk, and we couldn’t resist taking tons of pictures.

Next, we visited the Cactus Garden, a unique attraction near the Statue of Unity. With over 500 species of cacti and succulents from around the world, it was both fascinating and fun. The kids were especially amused by the unusual shapes, and my wife, who’s a gardening enthusiast, left with plenty of inspiration for our own little garden back home.

Chilling by the Narmada

Before heading back, we spent some quiet moments by the Narmada River. The tranquil waters, coupled with the towering Statue of Unity in the background, created the perfect setting to reflect on the day.

This peaceful spot was a beautiful way to wind down our Statue of Unity one-day trip, and it reminded us of the simple joys of being surrounded by nature.

The Ride Home

The drive back to Ahmedabad was filled with chatter about the day’s highlights and discussions about where to head for our next adventure. The kids soon dozed off, dreaming of their exciting day at the Statue of Unity, while the adults shared laughs and recounted their favorite moments.

By the time the city lights of Ahmedabad came into view, we were happily exhausted—a clear sign of a day well spent.

Our family outing from Ahmedabad to the Statue of Unity was an experience to remember. From the breathtaking views at the Sardar Sarovar Dam and the grandeur of the Statue of Unity to the colorful charm of the Valley of Flowers, every moment was packed with joy, learning, and togetherness.

Thanks to TransRentals, our journey was smooth and enjoyable, with Mr. Patel ensuring we got the most out of our Statue of Unity family trip. If you’re planning a getaway to the Statue of Unity, I can’t recommend this experience enough.
